I've just received £140 with very little effort.
Winter fuel payments were first made in 1997 but were only given to people receiving a state pension or certain benefits. Following a European Court of Justice judgment, this restriction was removed in 2000 and all over 60s started to get the payment. What was not well publicised was the fact that the ruling applied retrospectively and that those denied the earlier payment could now claim it. There is no time limit, details and an application form can be found on http://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk/winterfuel/home.asp,then go to 'About Winter Fuel Payments', followed by 'Past Winters' or by ringing the helpline on 08459 15 15 15. :j

Although it does not apply to me, that is a very helpful piece of information Paul.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Thanks for this, Paul.
DH and I were both 62 in 1997 and he moved in with me on 5th November that year. So we've both printed the form and are sending it off.
Normally we get half each.
Best wishes
