smart meter installer cuts off gas

smart meter installed by EON. after ha had installed the gas and electric meters. He informed me that he had to cut the gas off to the house because the gas fire in the living room was over 7kw and their wasn’t an air brick. As we had not used it for years I asked him to disconnect the fire, he refused, said he wasn’t qualified to work on fires.
He also said the cooker with gas hob, hadn’t got metal ends on the work surfaces. Have now had air brick and metal end protectors on work surfaces done and gas turned on.
He also advised that Gas meter was not earthed.
Be warned having a smart meter installed could result in your gas being cut off. It would of been nice if the EON installer had done a survey and advised before doing the job and cutting the gas off.

The problems described have nothing to do with the meter being installed - he did this for your safety. He would have been obliged to turn off the gas as soon as he was aware of the problems. He might have saved your life from either fire or CO poisoning. The only people you should be complaining about were whoever installed the cooker/kitchen or the fire badly in the first place.0

As IC says if he did the survey before changing the meter then he still would have had to cut off the gas fire. The two issues together means it was probably just easier to disconnect the whole house. They only have a short window to work on the issues for free.
If you had had gas safety checks done before this should have been picked up previously.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I was on a british gas home care agreement for the past 10 years. no one ever said anything about the problems. 2 years ago i was going to change to EON but their inspection found a problem with the boiler diverter, so i went back to british gas to fix the boiler. no mention of the air brick from anyone.
Don't get me wrong, I am very safety aware.
I believe that the installer should have been qualified and able to cut the supply to the fire. I do believe the installer was genuinely frustrated that he wasn't trained to isolate the fire.
The smart meter is nice to have, as you can see what gas you are using, I did have an electricity monitor before.
I posted this so readers are aware of what could happen if you volunteer to have a smart meter as I did.0 -
AFAIK a DFE fire without adequate ventilation is AR and not DGI.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

The gent was there to install a meter not not to resolve your dodgy gas installation. Why should the rest of us pay though higher bills for your installation to be put right.0 -
