webcam motion detection software

years ago I had a webcam programee that would start recording an avi when motion was detected and stop recording when no movement was detected then start the whole process again, saving a series of avi files on pc. does anyone know of any software available today that does this, preferably free. all that I have found will take still shots but not record the events in real tme, hope I have made it clear what I am looking for,
any help appreciated

    webcamxp the free version will not do what I want. The Pro version will but it's 90 euros, thanks for the advice.

    Depending on where you got your webcam, it might have some software already that wil do what you want (mine did). Try the makers website to see what they've got as well.

    It will also automatically upload to Youtube, send Emails and (if you pay) send an SMS on motion detection.
    And a fair bit else.

    Looks interesting, I currently use webcamxp which is ok, but like someone said above, you have to pay for the more useful stuff.
