I never did any academic work on computer viruses, but I did spend a good amount of time working on them for Microsoft's security division, both helping provide direct support for customers, and some time working on research and disassembling live virus code.
Assuming you mean "Man in the Browser", I incidentally did some work while I was there on breaking SSL security with a MITM attack. All good fun and more of a theory than a real threat when I first played with it, but I'm glad my bank uses OOB authentication these days for online banking.I worked in the computer and communications security industry for more than a decade and I have never see it written VIRUS or V.I.R.U.S., nor referred to as an acronym.
Agreed. But at least if people think VIRUS an acronym they won't start arguing about the plural form for it, so its not all bad, I suppose ;-)If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
sorry about my lack of correct capitalisation a am not writing a formal report. On the other hand peer reviewed papers refer to it as VIRUS however you are correct in most people using the Virus term as it is easy to explain it as similer to a biological virus.
Im actually argued from your point until I saw papers that refered to it as VIRUS. At the end of the day it doesnt really matter.
Our convo is going far off topic from what the OP asked about. Id personally say dont bother with antivirus for ubuntu. I have never known any1 to use antivirus for linux as a home user. The fact still remains a linux user hitting every dodgy !!!!!! and download site is still less likly to get a virus than a windows user who only goes on sites that seem legitimate and is protected upto the neck.
just wondering are you crest certified?0 -
yea banks really need to beef up protection against MITB, as alot of the attacks are becoming platform dependant across mac osx and windows, linux isnt efffected yet but that mainly due to the diversity of distros and the small market share0
