NatWest debt & no paperwork

I'm a newbie to MSE and desperate to sort out my finances but would really appreciate some advice as I'm not sure where to start.
I have an outstanding loan with NatWest which is now in arrears. I was made redundant whilst on maternity leave in 2009 and so was unable to keep up the monthly repayments. Unwilling to consider a revised repayment plan, NatWest passed the debt to Triton Credit Management Services, where an arrangement to pay was agreed and started. For some reason (and without warning) Triton then passed the debt to Apex Credit Management. When I asked Apex to firstly provide me with a copy of the original loan agreement before I started paying them, they said they would ... and I never heard from them again. Almost a year passed, and I have now received a letter from Wescot Credit Services saying they are going to get in touch regarding my outstanding debt to their client, NatWest.
With all the press about missold PPI, I wondered if I have a case with NatWest. I had a number of consolidation loans and credit cards with them over the years, as my overdraft and credit card balances got out of hand. But I just don't know where or how to start without ANY paperwork!
Do I just contact NatWest for loan & credit card paperwork? This current loan was taken out in 2006, but I had many more before - all consolidation loans.
If anyone out there can offer some advice, I would be so grateful.

Hi and welcome
What comes to mind, is that fact that you were made redundant (sorry to hear that) and you had PPI, but I assume you were not aware you had this cover or you would have made a claim?
Is that correct, or did they reject a claim?
In my view if you had known, then you would have tried making a claim for being made redundant, so in this case you do have a case in my opinion.
If you have the account numbers, that is a good start, you pursue the ones who sold you the account with the PPI, even if it is with a DCA.
If you do not have account numbers, in regards of the loan, if you bank with the same bank now, you can either call in the branch and ask if they can check what loans/credit cards you taken out with them, ask for the account numbers, they may provide them without having the need of having to go the Subject access request (SAR) direction.
A SAR is where you send a letter (template below if you want to do this), they have 40 calendar days to comply, you enclose the one off payment of £10 cheque or postal order.
(If you had say a few loans and credit cards with the same bank/business, then they should send all data they still hold going back at least the last 6 years, some will hold details for even longer, so you can write your bank account number on the SAR letter.
However, online banking may also help and allow you to go back about 7 years, where the loan account numbers are shown next to the monthly repayment.

I would contact/or call in the branch first, if none of the businesses are local you could try ringing and giving as many details as possible in order for them to track down your details.
As soon as you have the account numbers, you can continue to make a reclaim with your reasons, to do this you complete the reclaim questionnaire, send to the responsible party who set up and sold you the account, keep copies of the questionnaires in case you need to refer back to them again at some point.
Stage 3 to the questionnaire.

Please be aware though, if there is still any outstanding balance, they may still use any refund towards the arrears debt, where some will refund direct to you, or at least the interest you should receive.
Hope this helps.

Hello & firstly, thank you so much for replying so quickly.
As I don't have the paperwork, I can't check if I had PPI - although I do remember a conversation along the lines of "You'll stand a much better chance of getting the loan if you do". But surely if I DID take out PPI, that would have been used when I first contacted the bank to say I can't keep up the payments? Is it possible I had it and didn't know ... and NatWest didn't say anything about it when I was made redundant?
Shall I just contact the bank anyway and ask for a copy of my original loan agreement - is this where any PPI information would be listed? And the same for credit cards - would the PPI info be on the original credit agreements?
Sorry to sound so ignorant in all of this - I got myself into such a pickle I was just relieved at the time be given more credit! More fool me.
Thanks again.0 -

However, you need to write a subject Access Request letter (SAR) to determine for sure whether you had PPI.

Thanks very much, I'll get the SAR off and see where that takes me.
Much appreciated.0 -

Hi, I took out a 2k loan with santander in 2008 repayable over 5 yrs, missed a few payments recently, just today recieved this:
it was dated march 19th 2012.
"NOTICE ISSUED FOR NON-PAYMENT OF ABOVE DEBT"
(£1,117.95)
"YOU MUST TAKE ACTION BEFORE 2ND APRIL "
WE ARE CONCERNED THAT YOU HAVE FAILED TO RESPOND TO OUR PREVIOUS LETTER, AND THE BOVE SUM REMAINS OUTSTANDING."
(Even though I'm paying it to the bank at £74.53 per month.)
Now they've said I can either pay it in full to them at :
PAYMENTS OFFICE,
WESCOT CREDIT SERVICES LTD
PO BOX HULL HU9 9EW
or phone their recovery dept on 08453010241.
In the small print there is also an address:
Kyleshill house
1 glencairn street
saltcoats

Any help would be much appreciated.0 -
Hi there,
I just thought I'd continue on this thread though I'm not sure that's the correct format ...
Since I my last visit to MSE and having followed the very helpful advice given, NatWest have responded to my SAR with a very basic overview of my loan history (though they said I could have more detailed information if I needed it) with them - they had the decency to return my £10 cheque, which was v nice! They basically confirmed I had PPI on all three of my loans with them so I've sent off my letter, claiming it was missold etc. I wasn't even aware I had it!
There are a couple of things that are bothering me though. Despite over 3 years of timely repayments to them on the current loan, when I contacted them about my redundancy they didn't make any mention about my PPI, which I believe would have covered me - wouldn't it? They handed the debt over to a collection agency immediately which was unbelievably stressful, particularly after just having a baby! It was then passed over and over to different companies until it seemed to fall into a black hole. Until that recent letter from Wescot.
And the other thing is WHY will no-one give me the original paperwork? Not one of the debt collection companies could produce, and now it seems even NatWest are reluctant to hand it over?
As mentioned, I've sent the bog standard missold PPI letter off, but I'm wondering if I should insist on seeing the paperwork ... would it be helpful in any way or should I just wait and see what comes back from my most recent letter?
Any help again most gratefully accepted - I'm so thankful I contacted MSE in the first place!0 -

Do be aware that any redress the Bank may award in upholding your complaint for mis-selling will be withheld and applied to your arrears.0
