credit card fraud suspicion

in Credit cards
I recently received a phone call from my car insurance company offering me a discount on my next renewal if I renewed the policy a month early. I told them I would think about it and as it was a pretty good deal I rang later that day and renewed the policy. They already had most of my details and I paid by Credit card over the phone.
A few days later my card company rang to say they had noticed unusual activity on my card - I don't use it too much. Someone had used my details to pay bills including DVLC and a fine !
The card company cancelled my card and sent me a replacement and agreed to reimburse the fraudulent transactions but it has left me wondering if someone in the insurance call centre took my card details and I m now very reluctant to give out those details over the phone again.

There are many ways your card details can be stolen, it's also important to remember the details may not be used instantly. They will often be sold on the black market, remember that your details have your expiry date so they can guess how long the card will be good for. Of course it is a possibility that it could have been stolen in the call centre but it's possible for it to be stolen anywhere too. I wouldn't worry about it as it's a credit card and therefore you're not left out of pocket.0
