56 Reg Astra - Stone chip rust

Hi

Have a 56 plate Astra.

Just noticed that there is a small spot of rust just above the windscreen on the roof. Presumably a stonechip which I haven't noticed previously which has now corroded.

Probably about 1cm wide and looks like surface rust at present.

Any ideas as to the best way of treating it before it gets worse?

I was reading this link the other day, seems straight forward but alot of elbow grease needed.

I haven't tried it yet I plan to.

Thanks. That's really for stone chips though. My concern is the rust caused by the chip.

You need to spray on a product such as ACF-50 which wil deactivate the corrosion and prevent it spreading.
Then follow the instructions in the link above to deal with the chip, although better to wait for warmer weather before appplying touch up paint.

Check with Vauxhall, as your car is a 56 plate new cars usually come with a 10 year anti corrosion paintwork policy. Even if you are not the first owner you are still entitled to this policy.

Sorry, this doesn't cover problems caused by 'external sources' eg stone chips

Best to check with Vauxhall - the OP says "presumably" a stonechip but nobody can be sure that this is the cause.

I'd let a Vauxhall dealership take a look and see what they say.

best to check if the anti corrosion checks were done at service intervals as per requirements first rather than battling VX who will request the service book to check, there will be no point in going to VX if the checks are not done and stamped they will simply say tuff but have a word with the body shop to see how much it will cost!
