I'm being nosy now! Was it your first mortgage? How old are you? (You don't have to answer BTW!). Just wondering if you were in the cupid stunt league and an under 30 mortgage free person.

  • Wow! I'm totally overwhelmed by all your congratulations - thank you.

In answer to some of your questions: This was my second mortgage, but my husband's first. My first one was an endowment, in which I got badly burnt.

We're both in our early 40s and committed ourselves to paying on average £1k/£1.5K each month - some months it was a lot less, some a bit more - depended on what else had to be paid that month and how much overtime we managed to do. We had three lump sums in 6 years - approx £3k for my endowment mis-selling claim, £4k from the sale of my car and £9.5k from some share options my husband had. the rest was just being careful on what we spent.

Good luck to all of you...I hope I will be able to congratulate you very soon too.
