Converting Kindle books???

OK, when I asked how to read Kindle books on my new Kobo I was advised to use calibre, so I downloaded and installed it but still cannot get it to recognise books I have bought from Amazon!
Help!

books downloaded from amazon will have DRM preventing calibre, in it's basic form, from converting them.

    google calibre plugins.

Perhaps I am being stupid but when I look for a DRM removal site all I get is more forums, leading me to more forums, a site that wants $18 and another site that downloaded a gambling site when I tried to get the tool!

Alternatively a typewriter and plenty of paper is a low tech way to convert Kindle books. I've heard in some parts of the world you can even buy them read printed with a glossy binding on them called a 'cover'. Weird, eh!

Apparently you can share these physical printed versions (I think they were called 'books' or something like that) with other people without any issues at all.

Ok, ok. It's not funny......... but it's true........... ;-)

  • Just finished reading the Wired article on DRM. Very helpful indeed!

Once I got my Kindle, I started downloading like a demon... and the DRM stuff has made it hard to get on to my lappy in a decent format. Now I know!

The DRM is there for a purpose, to prevent breach of copyright.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
