Comparision Sites - Confused

I wonder if anyone can help me as i'm slightly confused with this one.

I put my annual consumption into a couple of sites for both gas and electricity (dont have the numbers to hand right now), i get loads of results telling me how much i could save by moving away from british gas to npower or southern electric mainly.

However the confusion arises in that when i divide these numbers by 12 the cost per month comes out at more than what i currently pay for my direct debits despite the headlines saying i'll save £100 a year for example.

Am i missing something?

Thanks!

Either the prices have gone up compared with the deal you're on now, or your direct debit isn't set up high enough to cover your usage.
