My wife wants to go to Dallas, Texas on holiday. I have no idea why but has anyone been there on holiday
Is there anything worth seeing in Dallas it doesn't really strike me as a holiday destination but what do I know. I just fancy a week in Greece.

Nothing to see here, move along.

I spent a month there in 1980...............and never went back!
Could be a lot different now?0 -
My husband goes on business and I go for the shopping and the restaurants but there is absolutely nothing else I would go there for. You cannot walk anywhere you have to drive everywhere and their gun laws are a bit worrying.
You can go see southfork ???travelover0 -
Cheers, hopefully we can scrap that one then.Nothing to see here, move along.0

If you can convince her that Dallas on its own is not really a holiday destination as most folks mention up there, you can find very nice places in Texas that are definitely worth going to.
Austin's not that far from Dallas (for Texas values of "not that far"), has a very lively music scene and is probably worth spending a couple of days there.
My favourite would be West Texas as it's not as flat and boring as the eastern half, plus you tend to get about as many square miles per person as you get persons per sqm in the UK (OK, I'm exaggerating slightly here). Big Bend National Park is definitely worth a visit but offers not much in the way of shopping opportunities.
As to the comments above that you'll have to drive everywhere - this is pretty normal in the US, especially once you go west of the Mississippi. Yes it's strange if you're used to Europe but that's just the way it is.0 -
its got a good theme park http://www.sixflags.com/parks/overtexas/0

You could checkout where JFK was shot.
Failing that I would look at going to San Antonio (see the alamo and the riverwalk), or you could head to Austin which is more of a party town.0 -
Having been to Dallas and other parts of Texas about 20 times I can assure you that it is NOT the place to spend a holiday. It has very little to offer the tourist. It's a huge state with very little to entice unless cattle n cowboys are your wifes thing !!! The cowgirls are rather nice though
Dallas, Houston, San Antonio or Austin (the 4 largest cities ) could easily be done in a day each !!! San Antonio being the more interesting has The Alamo, but to be honest if you saw it, you'd probably say to yourself - "is that it". Though it does have the Riverwalk which is an area of restaurants/bars below city street level.
I'd persuade her to opt for Greece if I were you !!0 -
The best thing about Texas is that you can drive from Houston to New Orleans in 4 1/2 hours. Now that is somewhere worth going to.0

I've been to San Antonio in Texas 3 times now! Once as a child, and twice in my twenties, and I love it! To say it could be covered in a day is just wrong!
The Riverwalk is beautiful, the Alamo interesting, and there are numerous 'eateries' and bars to visit, with or without entertainment!
There is an enormous Theme Park (Fiesta Texas) which would take a good TWO days to get around (!) and too many Shopping Malls to mention!
There are 'dude ranches', themed restaurants (Cooks R Us...cook your own Steak!!) and Corpus Christi (the Beach) is about a 3 hour drive away!
I could go on...but wont!
Think I made my point!
Only downside is you would need a connecting flight from Dallas!
EDIT....and it is so in-expensive, you wont know how to spend all your money! Really really Cheap!makinprogress0
