Moving Manchester - Need advice re getting to Salford Daily

Possible job in Salford Cresent Area and looking to move from London to Manchester, any advice on good areas using public transport to get to and from the location. Was originally looking to move to Macclesfield but transportation to Salford seems quite expensive. Looking ideally for a 1/2 bed within moderate budget. Any thoughts welcome. Could have car in the future if that would make any difference.

Bolton is worth a look since it can be quite cheap and Salford Crescent is a train stop on the way to Manchester City Center.0

new metrolink being installed east m/c through clayton (cheap houses but bit rough) to droylesden, audenshaw some nice areas here, I would advise you to rent for 6 months and get to know m/c:cool: Wisdom doesn't necessarily come with age.
Sometimes age just shows up all by itself
In the end, it's not the years in your life
that count....it's the life in your years0 -
If you're not looking for city-living, areas around the North and West sides of Manchester are probably your best bet. As has already been mentioned, Bolton has some nice areas and both buses and trains from Bolton pass through the Crescent on their way into Manchester. You'd need to be on the Salford-side of Bolton to get a direct bus through but the nicer parts tend to be the other side of Bolton. If you don't mind 2 buses or bus/train it doesn't matter though.
Some buses from Wigan to Manchester also run along the Crescent. Not sure about trains though. Places like Astley, Leigh, Worsley, Boothstown (along the A580) would provide easy access while still having a bit of greenery around you.
Agree with meercatunited though - rent for a while and get to know the area. Can you ask some of your new colleagues for ideas on where to rent?0 -
Anywhere near Eccles or Pendleton Precint (Salford Shopping City according to OS map)
There are 2 or 3 bus routes from Pendleton Precint which run to Manchester via the Crescent. Alternatively, anywhere near Salford Train Station as there are frequent trains between there and Cresent station.0 -
Have a look at places along the train route north of Bolton.
Lostock, Blackrod/Horwich, Adlington - all within 30min train ride of the Crescent & have station parking.
There are some quite nice areas with the countryside around Rivington on the doorstep but not too far away from shops & restaurants etc. Depends what you want really.0
