Item still has store security tag on.

Hi,

Well the item certainly was new - it still has a security tag on, not happy! Have contacted the seller, says didn't notice and can I take it back to the shop, and say you got from ebay!!

What should I do - 1) I don't know what shop and 2) it sounds like the lamest excuse in the book "I got from ebay". I don't think its an inktag, but not prepared to try to remove and have no strong magnets (have googled!).

Thanks

    Private or business seller?

If business just exercise your right to a no fault return and tell seller you will be returning it tomorrow (remember tracking).

In that case you need to consider whether this item is 'significantly not as described' and if so put in a claim via ebay .

Personally I think selling something that cannot be worn due to a security tag is 'SNAD' but I am mindful of other threads where private sellers object to this option being available on them. I would however email the selelr again, through the ebay system saying that you consider this not as described and asking outright for a refund on safe return. If seller says no then go for a claim, but give them a chance to agree first.

I certainly think it's a SNAD, and an excellent example of why buyer protection is required to be enforced over private sellers.

I wouldnt be taking it back to the shop personally. No receipt and security tag = shoplifted goods.

You can remove them yourself, but you do take the risk of them going off and ruining the item if its an ink tag. Have a look on youtube there are vids showing how to do it.

I'd open a SNAD, unless the seller sends the receipt & you can take it back to a shop locally to you to get it removed.
I would be assuming that's it's been knocked off.

would it be worth taking it back to the shop to see what they say?
If they think that it's been shoplifted, surely the OP could get a letter to state this then use this to as proof in a dispute.

That way there won't be any need to pay the return costs and if the OP gives the sellers name to the shop then they might decide to pursue the matter.
The store staff wouldn't have any right to confiscate the goods (especially if the OP first visits the store and leaves the item in their car).

Another option may be to contact the seller again, telling them that you are taking the item to a store to get the tag removed. Let them know that you will probably have to pass on their details so that the store can confirm when and where the garment was purchased.
If they did nick it, they may decide to offer a refund before getting it returned to them.

It's a difficult one this re: Security tags. I bought a jumper for my DD's Christmas in October from a high street big name shop. Got home, wrapped it up, and forgot about it til Christmas, then discovered the tag. Of course muggins didn't have the receipt. I have to say Peacocks were brill. They knew from from going in and out the store all year round and removed the tags with no problems. Just used that story to show that it may not be stolen.

If I was in the position, I would return it to the ebay seller and open a SNAD. I wouldn't take the chance, especially with the dye filled tags.

Have you bothered asking the seller for a receipt ?

But then it'll show on your internet browing history you've been looking at these kinds of videos and make you look bad. I wouldn't look at those kinds of videos on my own or my work computer.
