Dripping outdoor pipe

Morning all!:j
Not sure if this is the right place to put this - I'm normally over on the OS boards.
At the side of the house, high up almost at the eaves, I have a short pipe coming out of the house that has been constantly dripping. I know that the cold water tank in the loft is on the other side of this pipe and am asuming it is something to do with this.
I haven't a clue what's going on though or how to stop it.:o
Are there any DIY'ers than can offer suggestions?
Many thanks

It sounds like its the overflow that is dripping, if so, it means that your tank is overfilling and the inlet valve/stopcock needs to be checked.

Sounds like your ballc0ck needs adjusting. get up in the loft find the tank, pop the top off and lift the ballc0ck arm slightly. The water should stop filling the tank. You can then adjust the height of the level. If the adjuster nut is seized, you may be able to bend the arm down slightly as a bodge. Worst case scenario, a new ballc0ck is about £7 from screwfix/toolstation.
  • Oooo blimey. That sounds like a visit to ...... THE LOFT:eek:
Will dig out the step ladder and torch and see what I can find.
If you don't hear from me again, send a search party
    Many thanks

    Hi.

First thing is to look in the loft at the tank.

    Common problems.

'Lid' is a piece of wood and has rotted so much it has sagged and sits on the float.

Float has leaked and is full of water (turning into a sink rather than a float)

Insulation, usually fibreglass, has soaked up water and does the same thing as above.

More likely is the washer and/or seating (orifice) is worn.

Strip down ballvalve and replace worn parts.

If you cannot face this as a DIY then find a plumber. If you do not know a plumber then find one by recommendation or maybe through the CIPHE

Adjusting the level by bending the arm is not the answer. It just takes longer for it to reach overflow.

Replacing the whole valve is not necessary unless beyond repair. Why spend ££ when a new washer costs pennies.

    GSR.
Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)
