can you clear up for me, are you on dial up or broadband for the internet ??

if on broadband a faulty splitter (the box that gives you the connection for the broadband and phoneline) can cause this loss of telephone line but internet still working

has your external wiring for the phone line been there donkeys years and does it run down the side of the house to the socket ??

that has sometimes been there for 30 years and the insulation breaks down causing these intermittent faults

I'm on broadband and it is working ok, I've got 2 microflters and I've tried swopping them over
My house is 31 years old
The only outside wire is from the upstairs bedroom extension down to the porch. The BT box is about 1/3 mile away by Morrisons.
A couple of neighbours have recently had to have the pavement dug up by BT, but I don't know what their faults were.

Reported the fault online again and got a call back to say as I have tried with everything else unplugged and the line still dead. it must be a fault there end, so she is sending an engineer tomorrow am

Engineer came and said that the fault was probably the wiring to the extention, so not sure if I'll be charged or not, I said to him that the woman on the phone said that there was a fault on the line. He said he would put in a socket at the main socket which was a GPO socket in the lounge which you could not plug anything into, from there was a BT extention socket in the porch and from there, extension wiring going thro the top of the porch, up theoutside wall, through the bedroom window to the BT extension socket. He asked me if I use the extension upstairs, so I said no, when he finished he said the extension in the porch and bedroom were now disconnected and just the main socket working. I thought if I don't ask him to fix the upstairs extension, I'm less likely to get charged
My Eclipse broadband is working a lot better now as well, the line has stopped dropping off and the speed has gone back up, currently at 5.7Mbps which is still less than the 7 - 8Mbps I used to get, but I think that's down to Eclipse rather than the phone line
