Hi All
Not sure if anyone can help? I have a Acer Aspire 5536 and the base is getting so hot I can not keep it on my lap and it shuts down. Is this normal for laptops or should I contact Acer?

This particular model is notorious for overheating. It is probably only 2+ years old so is frustrating. Causes is usually down to any combination of dust, air inlet blocked, or in extremis, the cpu sealing compound not good enough.
The cheapest solution (which isn't always satisfactory) is to buy a cheap can of air and blow out any dust you can from the rear exhaust grill. Otherwise it is a dismantle job to remove any dust build up (always worse if you have pets, new carpets, etc) - if you do this it is worth reseating the processor while at it.
Lastly with this model, don't use it on your lap, keep it on your desk, or a tray.0 -
No laptop should be used literally on your lap, or carpet, duvet, cushion, etc. - it's a recipie for overheating caused by blocked fan vents. It really needs more than just a spraycan of air, it needs the fan cleaning out properly..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

You're going to have to take it to a shop to remove the rectangular block of fluff between the heatsink and the fan unless you're OK taking off the bottom of the laptop yourself.0
