It's one of those things that really gets on my nerves, instead of progressive brakes with good feel, they're making brakes that fool people into thinking they're better than they are.
Totally agree Strider, brakes which are like a light switch - on/off, nothing in between.
I have also noticed that clutch actions on some cars are a bit like this - Mazda 3 and Audi A2 spring to mind.0
