jaguar xtype 2.0d sport

I have a jaguar 2.0d sport 54 plate. When accelerating with a good few revs I get a belch of black smoke coming from exhaust.I have been told this is normal with this type of car as its muck build up in the BEL valve not too sure about that one.
I don't get the chance to do a lot of driving big distances and usually just manage to get out of third gear knocking around the village or popping into Durham about 4 mile away
Does anyone know about this and is there possibly a engine additive that would clean the pipes.

Pete

I would recommend giving it as good thrash once a month for 20 minutes, once the engine is up to temp really give it the beans in third gear and red line it to blow all the crap out the engine that builds up on all the short slow journeys that you make. You need to drive it like you stole it.
  • A petrol car would probably have been your best bet for that mileage, but as that doesn't help you much try some redex fuel additive (can get from most garages) and a good blast down the motorway as regularly as you can manage, even of you don't go anywhere just go for the drive. If its still bad you may want to look into getting the EGR cleaned out, I assume jag call this a BEL valve as you've already said.
  • Try these basic things first oil and filter change . And try using some additive to the fuel system . Have you had it taken to the garage for some sort of diagnostic check .
Or maybe your fuel / air mixture is wrong by a faulty sensor .

I have spoken to my mechanic who does my servicing and it was him who said give it a good blast which I do but it keeps occuring.
Wouldn't care but the car is running like a dream touch wood.
I am considering a additive but its the best one to get.
I must point out that this only occurs during a sharp lift in acceleration. Not flogging the guts out of it but just going up the revs a bit.

Ask your mechanic for some Forte, best additives by far but are trade only as far as I am aware.

Detailing world website is a great place for advice on anything auto.

Warning though do not keep reading the site, it is very addictive.

I was given this warning and didn't listen, now I'm hooked :o

  • If its black smoke coming out .

Can be a faulty injector normally recommended @ 100,000 change or the faulty injector pump . As I stated in earlier post the mixture might be wrong example not in enough air or to much fuel being delivered that's normally controlled by a ect sensor.

If your mechanic is happy there's no problem then leave it alone .

Fuel additives are a waste of time and money........... They more likely to shift some gunk in the fuel line and block an injector.

Your first port of call should be the EGR valve, a problem not exclusive to Ford (the xtype is a Mondeo in a frock).

I admit to paying £100 to have mine done at an independent jag specialist

    Cured mine a treat :)

Find yourself a local jag specialist (Ford will do!). These are !!!! engines some of which couldn't get through their first MOT due to expensive to repair faults. A thorough diagnosis, even for a few bob, will save long term, and expensive, heartache.
Treat additives for what they are, delicious profit makers.
