I need help on ideas to 'dress up' venue hall

Well the title really says it all!

Im in need of some ideas to uses in decorating the hall we are having our meal / party in after the wedding.

my initial thought was to hand fairy lights, baloons and other decorations from the ceiling, but after costing it up its was going to be mega bucks!!
for 3 or 4 sets of 10m fairy lights was going to be nearing £50:eek:

I need some MSE help guys!

If fairy lights are the way you want to go, I would just ask family and friends to dig out their Christmas lights and use those. xxx

Yeh definitely, everyone has fairy lights kicking about somewhere in the loft and I am sure between both sets of families you could get enough even if you need to top it up with buying a few sets yourself
Saving for our next step up the property ladder
  • I have some left over wedding decorations - candles, tea lights, small glass candle holders and fairy lights - email me macfarlane_diane@msn.com for details - they have been waiting up in loft for last year and I need rid of them.

I'd maybe delete your email address unless you want to swamped with junk mail.

What about streamers if you twist and drape them they look stunning and are usually fairly cheap on ebay. You can also get paper balls to hang now what are they called..... honeycomb balls (watch out for sizes they vary alot).

I agree with asking friends and family to loan their fairy lights to you - just make sure you clearly label each set and the power unit. Lights also look stunning behind voile drapes so won't matter if you have different types of lights - check sales in curtain shops for plain voile ones they should be cheap enough. (The long door ones are best)
Florists ribbon is cheap enough on ebay, one of your friends is bound to be good at ribbon bows, and curling ribbon is easy. You can tie it to the chairs etc.
I did small cellophane bags with sweets in on the tables and tied them with co-ordinating ribbon, and I made charms for all the champagne glasses which were popular with all the ladies!
There is a post on here, I think it was called 'trying to be crafty' which tells you all the details for charms. Hope this helps
Still looking for the plot...... Anyone seen it???

Have a look at some wedding blogs like Rock n Roll Bride or Whimsical Wonderland Weddings for budget or DIY weddings for inspiration?

It's tricky to recommend what you should do without knowing what sort of style you like.

I think it is a really good idea to borrow fairy lights from friends and family, otherwise you're going to end up with heaps of fairy lights after the wedding.

You can make bunting with end rolls of wallpaper which you can really cheaply in places like B&M - you can look for some that matches your colour scheme and pretty it up even more with ribbons, or buy some rolls of organza cheaply on ebay.
