If you can fit a double bed (4 ft 6" x 6 ft 3") in then they are doubles.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Why are you asking? (Eg selling, buying, renting, doing a student project... ?)

110 sq feet or more for 2 people says only one room a double..0 -
Although narrow and therefore annoying, they could both easily be described as doubles in most houses.
Sucks doesn't it
Doubles should be 15x15 minimum .... oh how glorious that'd be, but the first time it was sold that'd be chopped up to create an extra bedroom on the details at an asking price of an additional £40-70k
It does annoy me how houses are priced/viewed by how many bedrooms they have.0 -
What planet do you live on?PasturesNew wrote: »Doubles should be 15x15 minimum ....This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Any way around 10x10 is a double to me, so one is a skinny double and one is a single.
PN, I follow you on the other board and love you dearly but 15x15 is the size of my living room!Emergency savings: 4600

Which by your reckoning leaves about 20,000,000 homes in Britain only having single bedrooms! If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

My fiance has a similar view - although he's lowered his standards to accept 14'x14'... did make it quite difficult to find a suitable property to buy!0 -
We are buying a house, room sizes are:
Bedroom 1 (13' 4'' x 9' 11'' (max) (4.06m x 3.02m (max) DOUBLE
Bedroom 2 (10' 10'' x 9' 0'' (3.3m x 2.74m) DOUBLE
Bedroom 3 (8' 11'' x 7' 9'' (max) (2.72m x 2.36m (max) ) SINGLE0 -
After the war the Government commissioned a report on housing standards for council houses.
These were known as the "Parker Morris" standards
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parker_Morris_Committee
'Modern' (sorry, should I say "A luxury development of stunning") flats and new build estate houses fall so far below these standards that these days councils refuse to take them on as social housing.
Whether your bedroom is a double or not, you could probably install hammocks and get 6 or 8 in there. What are you looking for for your money?0 -
Used to be 10x10 to be considered a double. A friend who owns a long established estate agency says 10 by 10 was the unofficial 'standard' until the late 80s when they started getting smaller and smaller.June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550
October challenge £100 a day. £385/£31000
