I pay around 700 pounds for my car insurance. Like everyone on this site and beyond it has of course gone up by double without any accidents or driving offences to cause this.
However I'm not writing about this scam.
I have insurance with E choice / RSA.
I wanted to add a mate to my comp insurance for just one day. He's a clean licence, 35 year old no claims person.
Cost? An extra 200 pounds.
There's no box to tick that will allow a shorter period.
No one answers the phone at E choice on saturday.
So that's it: one days motoring insurance costs what I used to pay for a year a few years ago.
As soon as my insurance runs out I'm going to John Lewis. Never knowingly undersold etc.( No relation to Martin Lewis I assume)
I haven't read the small print of John Lewis car insurance, but their price is competitive.
Given all these compare the markets dot com are all in a collusion/ cartel, it seems time to go with a brand one trusts.
And I know John Lewis insurance answer their phones on Saturday.

That's all it is - a brand. Their car insurance product is administered and underwritten by Ageas.
Edited to add: I see you have now added a ludicrous poll to this thread. Can you please provide some evidence for your argument? Do you even know what a cartel is?
Further edited to add: RSA's echoice website is fairly clear in the type of service they provide - see http://www.echoice.com/home/support.
"How can I add a temporary driver to my policy?
Only by calling 0844 854 8855, since this type of policy change cannot be made online.
Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm. Calls may be recorded and monitored.
Certain charges may occur as a result of any changes to your policy. Please refer to our Charges / Fees for full details."
This is what happens when you buy on price not service/cover.

That is not true. Please keep to facts. So that's it: one days motoring insurance costs what I used to pay for a year a few years ago.
The cost indicates that they dont really want to offer it. indeed, some insurers dont offer it at all.Given all these compare the markets dot com are all in a collusion/ cartel, it seems time to go with a brand one trusts.
What evidence do you have to support the allegation of a cartel?
What makes you think that a brand is actually doing anything other than a white labelled product that is the same as others who also buy the same product and market it under their label?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). All these companies that offer insurance etc - john lewis, tesco etc...they dont. Its their badge on someone elses product.
I used to work for firends provident - they were the people behind tescos life insurance.
I also worked for RBS, i spent time in their credit card department...they were behind the badge on tescos credit cards and i believe their car insurance at one point too.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. If its for one day why not get your friend to buy a days insurance for himself on your car?
As mentioned above you need to look past the name on the front. See who they use to provide the service. And where the call sentres are located.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Unless you really don't trust the person you are adding on then what is the issue of adding them on to your policy for the rest of your term?
If you don't trust the person not to drive your car without your permission then don't add them at all.
In my case it's cost me from nothing to £30 to add people including any admin fees for adding someone mid-term. Then again everyone I've added has their own vehicles.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
