I only keep certain pieces - with three kids you find yourself with a lot of stuff otherwise.
Usually when they bring their stuff home at the end of the year, I look through it with them and have a chat about what they have done. After that, I will usually keep the English book for the year, as that has their stiories in it. Speling, maths and workbooks go to be recycled.
With artwork, I usually name, date and laminate it. We have the 'gallery' in the downstairs hallway and everythign goes up on the wall. During the summer hols each year everything comes down and the laminated stuff is stored away and extra bits and pieces get binned. With models, we take a picture of the child alongside it, we don't have the space to keep everything.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. My eldest is 29 now
Well you learn something new everyday,:D I thought you only had the two, a teenager and one a bit younger?
You must have been a young mum eh? :rotfl:
No offence intended just surprise that i've been on here all these years conversing with you and never picked up on that.0 -
Keep what you have the space for but the actual precious thing is the memories and they take up no room at all.Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.
Virtuous action, now, at this very moment.

Willing acceptance - now, at this very moment - of what you can’t change0 -
It is all a question of balance, if you need to clear out just keep a few important things.
Dont let you life be over dominated by past events, you have the future to look forward too.
having just spent a long and difficult few months clearing out 'stuff' from the home of my mum be aware that no one else will hold your things in the same esteem as you do.
Better to clear out and have few precious things than have so much that the precious things get chucked out because they are not recognised.0 -
How about doing a scrap book or box for each only keeping things that make you smile/have a memory etc as others have already suggested. Then with whats left box up for each individual child and give it them. Even though you say they are not interested once you hand it over its their responsibility to keep or throw and it won't be you who is doing the actual throwing so it might help you if that makes sense. They might not actually throw it once they 'own' it.
Then one day they will inherit the book or box of things that you decided to collate for them.0 -
I have one storage box as a memory box per child. The plan is when it gets full then each time I want to add something I'll take something not as important out.
I love going through the box my Grandparents kept for me. They kept school reports and the likes, but also kept a few dresses and my Nana pinned a wee note to each one about why they kept it. Every now and again I have a rummage through it and it's amazing when a memory is reignited by finding something.
She did the same for my cousin and she looked through it once and chucked it. She's just not a sentimental person about 'stuff'. However I'll always be grateful for it because I love it. I'll give my children their boxes and it'll be up to them what they do with them. If they don't want to keep it that's fine, but I want them to have the chance to go through it and love it like I have mine.0 -
My daughter is in reception and I've already chucked most of her stuff out. Fav pictures get frames and put on the dining room gallery - these are changed as new stuff comes along. I see no point in keeping stuff unlooked at in drawers for years only to then chuck it out 30 years later.
Because 30 years later I was that little girl grown up. After 15 years in business I came back to our family farm. On helping my Mum go through stuff we came across an essay I'd written age 7 called "when I grow up I want to be a farmer"! My dad read excerpts (sp?) of it at my wedding at it was a proper father/daughter moment.
Having a big old house my Mum also has stored my granny's school reports - now nearly 100 years old and fascinating social history in themselves and my great great granny's fur coats that she was bought in a good year by my grandpa.
However, we are lucky to have the space and I pity the person who eventually has to go through it all. But by the time needs must, some of it might be valuable!0 -
My DD has scrapbooks where i glue in drawings/paintings.
I bought a large art folder which is the home for all her work books all of which live in the loft.
I never keep models but do photograph them and then stick it in the scrapbook.
Any `silly` things i throw away, including blank bits of paper with just a spot of paint on them:rotfl:DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

My parents recently had a clear out and gave me a whole box of school stuff - I loved reading it and have kept it all.
Turns out I did a certificate in ballet when I was 4. I had no idea I was a qualified dancer.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
I kept everything, my lads are now 17 and 19 . we have a good giggle when we look at it together, which to me is making more memories
