    In debt no more!
  • Funny how you think you are the only one who does this - I've done pretty much all of the above - including covering the cash machine screen when I go to withdraw some money so I cant 'see' what is/isnt in there, which is absolute madness in hindsight....

    well done you.

do you feel you could post up all your incomings and outgoings?
you could use the SOA stickie on this board (its in the help for beginners bit)
someone cleverer than me will post a link i bet.

don't feel alone,we are all by your side

    good luck
  • I know exactly how you feel! When I was single and living in a house share, I had a chest of drawers of which the top drawer i kept locked. There was just enough room to feed the pretty much daily post into the gap and therefore it didn't exist to me! I did that for over a year! It was chock-a-block when i finally opened it.

I also have used the cash machine without looking and hope it gives out some paper! Not a nice feeling really. I used to go through to the bank on payday and draw out everything it had so that the debt companies didn't get it!

So no - you are not alone in what you have done! Like you, I found that this place was a really good 'therapy' to get the courage to do something about it!

The other thing I would say, is take up a free hobby - running or something like that, as it helps to vent the worry and anger you will inevitably get from dealing with the DCA's as and when you get in contact. It really helped me!

Best of luck, stay frosty and chin up!

This has made me chuckle ..... I haven't used a cash machine for years (I get cashback in shops) - started off that I didn't want to know the balance and I've still not used one!:o

Hi nickbrat - I know how you feel .. It's a scary place. My low point was very recently - I am over £30k in debt & whilst I now know how much I owe, I still (a monto later) have yet to sort through the dreaded paperwork cupboard ! The tip about spending diaries and checking bank daily are a great place to start. I found I spent less just because I had to write it all down :) also check bank daily , whilst I have very little money - at least I know exactly how little it is to the penny ! Trust me , once you know how bad it is it can really only get better :)
Very best of luck to you

It is a very scary place but having done my soe and have people tell me what i should be doing (even though i knew myself) has made things seem a lot better. I know i can make things improve, car is paid up in May so that free's up £200 striaght away....

Good luck to you too. Its great to know im not the only one. Open the mail, i did. I know open every letter as soon as it lands and to be honest 99.9% of it has nothing to do with money anyway.......

    Nick
