Barclaycard call centre

I recently changed my bank account and some direct debits etc.

Although my Barclaycard statement stated that my direct debit would be taken on March 9th, my online account with them showed that they just had my new account details and no direct debit was set up?

As i have read on here many times that you should carry on paying by alternative means until it shows on your statement that the direct debit will be taken, I wasn't too concerned, but thought that I would call and check.

I phoned the call centre early on the 8th and asked the simple question "will my direct debit be taken today or tomorrow".

I was told "no".

I was asked if it was shown on the statement that the direct debit was set up and I said yes.

They confirmed that the direct debit was not in place, so I made a payment whilst I was on the phone, hoping that it would clear in time.

On checking online later on the 8th, it showed that the direct debit was in place and a payment was taken by direct debit today, along with the one I did on the phone.

The result is that I've made a payment that I didn't need to make.

How can it show on the statement that it was set up, but not show online (which is more up to date) and also, why would the call centre have the wrong info?

It seems strange to me that the direct debit showed up online just at the point when I called and it was due to be taken!

    Hmmm its kinda odd.

They have a few systems to check so im not sure what checks they made. Not sure why it all of a sudden showed up either.

    A few things -

Usually, users dont understand that they should not store bookmarks of a banking site, nor should they store it in faves.

Also that they should clear out temp files folders and cookies.

Sometimes people have it on bookmarks and it doesnt show the updated balance. When you ask them to take it off bookmark, they then go into Google and search for their banking site and then log in from there (Again, not a good idea.)

So sometimes it wont show this way either.

Unless they manually type in the address in the address bar (not the google bar - people dont know the difference) then sometimes the updates may not show.

It doesnt explain though why the advisor took payment?
Maybe the changes you made were still going through on their systems too.
