A plea to tenants and homeowners

I'm not implying that you are all like this but please listen.
Now, I know this isn't a money saver for you, but believe me, it is for me.
I am a self employed painter and decorator. I do work for some insurance companies. Today I was to repaint walls and ceilings in a bedroom, kitchen and living room due to water damage. Leaky roof.
Anyway, the tenant was contacted, as arranged, Monday, Tues AND Wednesday to confirm that we were going in today to do the work and to collect the keys. Nice and simple 1 days work. Ha!!
We arrived at 8.30 and let ourselves in as agreed. Now the fun begins.......
One tenant was still asleep in bed [he finally surfaced about 10am]. He stripped the bed but left EVERYTHING ELSE in the room. Clothes everywhere!! Every surface in the kitchen was covered with dirty pots, plates etc., sink was full to overflowing. The living room looked like there had been a party [or several] in it. Plus the book cases floor to ceiling, FULL. CD's. DVD's all over the floor. Desk and table, covered in books, papers, laptop etc.,
Needless to say that the simple one day job has now run over into two.
So, no loss to the tenant but a loss in a days wages to me.
Sorry to rant at you, but I had to get this off my chest.:D

i know, i know (Sybil Fawlty mode !!) - i had to do a major refub to a rental house - damp course, replastering, new electrics, some new floor boards, new carpets, decorating, some new studding walls etc etc - and i had written a long letter to the tenants (who refused to move out for the 6 weeks work, even tho i had explained in graphic detail how awful it would be) explaining how they would have to live upstairs for 6 weeks, and could they have moved their stuff upstairs ready please. When the builder arrived at 8.45am as arranged the whole family was in its pyjamas watching TV munching breakfast, entirely unconcerned ................. WATCH MY LIPS !!!!!0
