Large 1st Balance Transfer

Hi Guys, Just after a bit of advice really.

long and short of it, I've decided it's time to get off my !!!! and do something about my biggest debt, My Credit Card. I've been a Barclaycard customer for about 10 years and never really had any issues, had good customer service and stayed loyal because of that (Bank with Barclays and all that).

However, I am effectively handing them money every month and not paying off debts I should have got rid of a long time ago, and it's time to stop.

My situation is that I owe approx £3500 to barclaycard, and am losing about £100 per month in interest/fees. and as I only have about £2/300 of disposable income everymonth, (salary of £18k) and I have car insurance due and will have to buy another car in the next few months (old banger has had it!) It seems silly to be giving this money away.

What I'm looking for is a 0% card for a year min, I realise that Barclaycard will not change or move me (seems silly they would lose all my business just for the sake of losing my higher interest payments). So I looked at Nationwide's site as i could see what credit they would offer me before a credit search, and whilst £2800 limit was better than I expected, It's still not enough to transfer completely, which I would prefer.

Does anyone know of a card (preferably a mainstream bank, I wanna be able to face-to-face if there is a problem) that would offer me a larger limit? or is it best for me to get two lesser limit cards asap just to stop paying interest?.

Sorry if i waffle, Don't really know where to start!?!

Regards

Ali.

  • One card would be better as it's only one credit search. In my experience, MBNA are generous with their limits, but it's not face-to-face. NatWest have been pretty good (but only about 60% of MBNA). Nationwide was one of the lowest I've been offered.

My experience is a little out of date now (2-3 years probably) so things may have tightened, although I imagine the relative positions are similar.
  • I found Virgin were good with their credit limits when I transferred from Barclaycard. They offer 0% for 20 months on balance transfers (there's a fee of 2.99%). You can apply online too which makes it really easy.
