Warning for anyone who goes over a Vanquis card

They set up a DD on my account when Itook out the card, it was during their call to me to tell me I had been accepted. It was set up and I declined their repayment option. I checked and the DD was in place within 10 days of the call. I have always paid in full within a few days of getting my statement online. I find that this is the best way, if you pay when the statement arrives there are no worries about missing the payment date and I would advise anyone with Vanquis to operate it this way.
Just spoke to my cousin. He said that on the welcome letter, it said that you manually have to make the first payment, even if you have set up a DD. It seems Vanquis can't organise the first payment in time. But, he said that the letter (you get with the card) definitely tells you to make the first payment.0 -
You must have missed a number of payments to default and ignored statements. Most cc companies don't set up a DD you have to set it up your self.
The OP said default interest. He hasn't defaulted the account or missed numerous payments. The default interest is the interest they charge you on a default fee ie it is the interest on the £12 fee for going over the limit or making a late payment.0 -

As is the case with all credit card companies. They cannot
guarantee the first direct debit will go on time and advise you make an online payment or similar to cover the first payment. When you are borrowing from vanquis you are in the last chance saloon and surely you should check and double check everything is squeaky clean. I know they are not known for their customer service but you cant just assume everything will be ok and bury your head...0 -
Unfortunately having worked in a bank this was a question I did ask and check and was assured I would get the first payment taken.
Yes was asked to set one up but it never happened and the call has been listened to and it isn't me loosing my marbles.
Unfortunately it would appear what Vanquis external calls are saying and doing are two different matters.
And Chopper in answer to your question, yes head was very in the sand as was on JSA and getting very fed up. However move forward 7 months very secure job and hence able to clear a very large chunk of money in short time so certainly do not have head in the sand now.
Infact very happy to say it will be cleared by Thursday next week. Its physically not worth the hassle of phoning and arguing the toss with the company, because an external sales person was more bothered about hitting his target then good customer service! (Could be applied to many credit card companies out there!)0
