spilt water on laptop keyboard now not working

I knocked over a glass of water yesterday and some went on to the keyboard, I moped it up and the laptop continued working ok.

Unfortunately when I try to turn it on today I get a screen with the heading Boot Menu and then 5 options - 1. HDD, 2. FDD, 3. CD / DVD, 4. LAN, 5. USB memory, <Enter set up>

Using the arrow keys I can move between the options but when I press enter nothing happens.

Any advice? Does it need to dry out for longer or have I broken it.

Waterhas probably seaped through passed the keyboard and onto the motherboard....plug in a USB keyboard and see if you can boot properly

the water which had already seeped between the keys when you mopped up has now trickled into the electronics below, and that is where your problem lies. instead of using the laptop, you should have turned it upside down (switched off but open case), to let that water trickle out again, which MIGHT have worked.

If it was JUST WATER, and not much you MIGHT be lucky, and it might dry to be useable in 3 or 4 days, switched off.

However, I suspect it's going to be a repair job .

If the liquid had any sugar in it (sugared tea/coffee or fizzy drinks), then you are in deep trouble, asthe sugar re-crystallizes as it dries, and gums everything up.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

yup, I've done the water thru the keyboard thing twice now.

On one machine I tried taking it apart/ fiddling with it and it was a complete disaster.

On the other it seemed seriously screwed with large banks of keys not working / generally seeming very unhappy. After the firse experience I just left it alone for about a week and when I cam back to it it was working perfectly and has done ever since.

Leaving it alone to fully dry out is definitely the technique I'll be using in future.....

....along with tyring to keep my drinks further away from my keyboards :)

Since nobody else has mentioned it yet, if you spill water in an electronic gadget, turn it off and then remove the battery.

And don't even think of turning it back on again until you are absolutely certain it is completely dry.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
