What is my economy 7 usage - 20% or higher?
I have just moved in to a electricity only 1-bed flat.
There is an Economy 7 dial, but no over-night storage heaters.
The heating is never turned on after mid-night, nor are there any electrical gadgets, computers, microwaves, oven clocks etc.
Only 24 hour appliance is 1/2+1/2 fridge / freezer.
I will use the dish washer and washing machine overnight either once or twice a week.
I am pretty sure that I am NOT THE AVERAGE 55% user on Economy 7 - would you say that I use about 20% during those 7 hours, or is that too low?
Many thanks

As you are aware, ECO 7 meters deliver cheap power overnight, but there is a trade-off in that your Daytime power is dearer than standard rates
If you are not heating overnight with Storage radiators and using Electric heaters in the day it can get expensive, even more so if the ECO7 isn't cooking up your Hot water overnight
Only you can tell what is best for you when you get your 1st Bill, and work out the cost of that Daytime power v Nightime power, and then compare the total consumption to a Standard meter tariff, which your supplier will switch you to if you ask.0 -
Do you at least have a water tank that you can heat at night? Other than heating and hot water, nothing is going to make a dent in that percentage. I'd be surprised if it is as high as 20%.0

Thanks for your replies.
I live in a block of flats and every tenant simply has a standard meter with Rate 1 and Rate 2 written on them.
I didn't realise that only using one rate would be an option.
I will certainly start turning the hot water boiler off every morning now and try to remember to turn it back on before bed time (no clock timer...)0 -
a lot of people benefit from the economy 7 tariff without having night storage heaters.
if you use approx 22% at night you will break even.
any more and you will save.
you will need to check with your supplier for the times of your "7 hr economy rate" as they vary quite a lot.
