Free DVD player software?

Hello,
I am looking for a free DVD player piece of software that I can download. It just needs to play DVDs, not any other file types, but I need it to be simple! The problem I seem to have is that my computer does not have the new DirectX and I can't download it because my (second hand) computer seems to have a business version of windows and I don't have the business codes for it. A lot of players seem to require this, so does anyone know of one which doesn't? I currently use a very old version of Windows Media Player which is great 95% of the time but sometimes crashes part way through a film, very annoying.
Thanks in advance!
Jane

Have you tried downloading the Directx redistributable file rather than the update from Microsoft ?
