PPI help

Hello everyone, just wondered if anyone could give me some guidance. I saw the news the other day about banks and PPI and was wondering if i would be entitled to anything and how to go about it.

I took a loan out with HFC Bank around 2004 for about £5000. I payed the repayments for about a year before losing my job and i clearly remember having a conversation in the branch about insurance paying it for a couple of months or so. It was then re-structured. I then defaulted on this and it was placed with several collection agencies. I agreed a payment schedule and payed for about another year but then got into more difficulties. It has now dropped off my credit file and i have no paper work regarding the account from any agency or HFC themselves as i binned them.

What would be the best way of going about seeing if i am entitled to anything?

I also have a CCJ regarding car finance that i am paying off at the moment and do remember PPI being on my statements when i initially took out the finance. Again, i have no paperwork from the original company (GMAC) but have the details from the collection agency at the moment (DLC) who i am paying at the moment.

I'm not very clued up on all this and just wondered how to go about it all and who to contact in both instances?

Any help/advice and guidance would be very much appreciated.

Also, would i be entitled to reclaim late payment charges to the loan account with HFC as it is stat barred and dropped off my credit file. Just don't want it to re-appear on my file and the whole 6year thing start over again?

You have two issues to be aware off.
1 - it may be that they hadnt realised you got away without paying (clerical error). So, complaining about the PPI may draw attention to yourself and allow them to come back after you for the debt
2 - ignoring the above, if you complain and you succeed in your complaint, they can use the redress to go against the debt you didnt pay. So, if the default is greater than the redress, you wont get a penny of it.
Also, would i be entitled to reclaim late payment charges to the loan account with HFC?

There is no such thing as entitlement. You can ask and they can say yes or no. Again, if they did agree to repay, you would not get the money. It would go against the default.
