Theft Only Insurance for my car when its SORN

I've just SORN'd my car as I can't afford the Insurance, I was paying £85 a month but I've lost my job and need to save money. Swinton wouldn't let me reduce the cover to just theft so ive had to cancel it.
I've read into the other threads and understand I must keep it of the road coz its got no tax ( now SORN) but I want some theft cover on it as it's worth £7,000. I'm just really worried if it goes missing off my drive.
Can I get theft cover anywhere coz if it gets stolen then I will still have to pay the finance on it.
Any help would be great.

You would normally get TFO cover (ie fire and theft only) which is generally called laid up insurance. Speak to a local broker (other than Swinton) and they should be able to help.0

Thanks for that - I have just rang my local broker Blackfiars Insurance in Whitstable and they say they can't cover for just Theft (or Fire either). I'd have to take it off SORN and do a third party fire and theft but thats just too expensive, I may aswell stay comprehensive.
I then rang coversure and they said you can't get this cover on it unless its a classic car, which it isnt.
Can you recommend anyone?
I need to get it done asap as I've not got any cover now.0 -
I am sure if you try others they will be able to help. Even Direct Line enables to to change a policy to a laid up one http://www.directline.com/motor/taking_a_break.htm0

Thanks again for this. I spoke to Direct Line straight away but with them it means I have to commit to a high premium which I dont want to do (basically I'd have to start it on Comprehensive and down grade after one month). With them you cant reduce the cover straight away, so I cant take out a Laid Up policy and upgrade, I have to do it the other way round and pay a load of money upfront.
Straight after speaking to them I searched the internet for laid up car insurance (which I now know its called that) and one online company called Sorn Insurance has just quoted me for what I need (for Fire and Theft) and its £118.00 a year. They've emailed it to me so I'll have a proper look now. The other one is Adrian Flux and they are calling me back so hopefully I can get it sorted today.

All sorted now.
Spoke to Adrien Flux and they wanted £286.00 so I rang Sorn Insurance to check the price and the said it was right so I paid it. They said I need to take photo's if my car and if I cancel after 14 days I dont get any refund, Im fine with that.
The cover they give me is Fire & Theft only so in my situation its perfect for me. Glad you learnt the me 'laid up insurance' saying now - Its saved me loads.

is it an older car? Ive insured old sports cars for less than that. Fully comp with agreed value.

Hi - My car is a 2009 Ford Fiesta Zetec and I'm 22, so I can't get a classic policy for it.
Compared to my comprehensive policy its a fraction of the price so I'm happy with it and I got it covered for 12 months. When I can afford it I'll put it back on the road.

Back in the day (ie 30 years ago when I worked for Eagle Star - remember them?). It was so simple to change from full road cover to Laid Up Fire and Theft, or even LU Accidental Damage Fire & Theft - ADF&T would also cover you say, should a tree fall on your car whilst parked up. The rate was about £10 per £1000, and bonus would still accrue if you had full cover for more than 6 months of the year.
I think today's insurers are missing a need (and a stream of income) to the customer these days by not offering laid up cover, especially following the introduction of the Continuous Insurance Enforcement.0 -
wouldn't be easier to buy a wheel clamping device ? at least that way it isnt going anywhere. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I just didn't want to take any chances when my cars worth £7,000 and if it went missing I couldnt claim the money so Id then have to pay the finance on it.
Plus I got Fire cover too and it was cheap Insurance for Fire and Theft so I'm happy with it.
Thanks
