removing silicone from chrome and glass?

any advice please, i have had a shower cubicle fit which was a total bodge so have to have it taken out and refit.
the plumber covered everything with thick silicone,
the cubicle is chrome wall posts and glass that has been treat, so instructions say to clean only with soapy water.
solvent is damaging the chrome,rubbing it is scratching the chrome, whats the best way to remove silicone from chrome and glass?

    I'd maybe guess Turps...but haven't tried or tested it

    or this;

    the top one on the link (the cheapest one) is supposed to be the mutts nutz.
    Can't remember where i saw it reviewed (might have been on the product reviews itself ) but it got good marks.

    good luck

    I think you're better getting a Stanley knife and cut/scrape it very carefully.

    thanks. the removers are making the chrome discoloured though(unless its the silicone that has damaged the chrome, it has been in place around 10 weeks) and am a bit worried if instructions say not to use any chemicals ( was advised where i bought the cubicle not to use cif, flash etc) when cleaning cubicle it will damage whatever the glass has been pretreated with . got a window scraper blade for the glass to get the thick of it off

    After scraping the bulk off I have used something called 'sili kill' which worked a treat. I did not have a need to use it on chrome so would not know if it would affect it. I got it from toolstation so it may be worth taking a look and seeing what the instructions say regarding use on chrome etc.

  • You could try methylated spirits or surgical spirits (try on an inconspicuous bit of chrome first).
