My wife and I applying for separate credit cards

I am hoping someone can help!
Is it possible for my wife and I to apply for separate credit cards from the same institution at the same time?
The interest free period on my current credit card is ending in June 2012, so I am looking around for a new credit card so I can transfer the balance.
I made a 'soft enquiry' last night for a new credit card, and the credit limit that was offered to me falls short of the balance on my existing credit card. I was offered the option of transferring an amount equal to the credit limit to the new card, and then take out a personal loan for the remainder of the balance, at a rate much lower than my current credit card will revert to at the end of the interest free period.
I was wondering if I could avoid getting a personal loan by putting the remaining balance on a credit card in my wife's name (with her permission, of course! :rotfl:)

I've currently got a M&S Card and my wife has just applied for and been accepted for one in her name.
She is even a 2nd card holder on my account and had no problems getting hers.0 -

Yes that should be fine. Worse case scenario, they may just need to speak with her to confirm she is the account holder and OK's it. But AFAIK, if she calls up her card to complete the BT, there is no issue of this. As far as the company cares, she has authorised a payment to pay off another card.0
