How long until Barclays give me Contactless ?

In January I switched to Barclays and the guy that set up my account said that I could only get a Electronic card and not a fully authorised one, due to just joining the bank and having no history with them.

He said just keep your account in credit and you should be able to get one later on.

Three months on I've kept my account in good credit and never mossed payments etc. I've no history of debt or anything like that, do you think I would be eligible now ?

*I dont want to ask Barclays just now, because I know they will have to run a credit check on me, and would be a bit of a waste of a search, if I'm not likely to get one.

Thanks.

Do you really need one? Hardly any places use contactless systems. And in those that do I often forget about it and pay with pin. Nothing special.

But if you really want, I would give them 6 months at least and then apply for it. Three months is not enough time to tell anything about your income and outgoings to your bank. And to build some credit history you need more than that.

Of all my cards (6 in total) only newly issued Barclaycard Simplicity have it (I didn't ask for it, previous one did not have it as far as I remember). I've paid using contactless technology on 3-4 occasions and that was it.

Why can you get one on an Orange pre-paid card from the outset and they are issued by Barclays Bank? You don't need a credit check they are issused from the outset!

Same here. The places that do offer contactless only enable the reader when you ask, so I find it simpler to just stuff my card in the machine which makes it obvious what kind of payment method you want (apart from McDonalds, strangely, who just state the total and go dumb until you wave the card in front of them).

Now if the readers were activated regardless and I could just tap my wallet against the reader it would be more convenient, but they don't.

But if you really want one, try after having the account for 6 months.

After watching this you may be glad that you haven't got a Barclays contactless card.
