Faulty item bought outside of eBay - anything we can do?

Hi all,

Im pretty certain this is just ££ down the drain but thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas before we gave up.

My husband has done something so silly - he saw an American Xbox described as in 'perfect condition' on eBay, they're quite difficult to get in the UK and DH really wanted one. The seller ended the listing after a couple of days with no bids so DH contacted them and asked if there was any chance it was still for sale and would they consider an offer. He expected them to say they'd sold it privately etc, etc. The lady got back to him and said her son had decided to keep it after all but she'd spoken to him and he'd accept £75 inc p&p. I was very wary because of the risks involved with buying outside of eBay but he went ahead and paid throigh PayPal. It arrived today and surprise surprise it's broken. He's good with xboxes and has fixed a few in the past but this one looks like its got numerous faults and is possibly beyond repair.

I'm annoyed with him for taking such a stupid risk. He's going to email the seller to let them know but I doubt they'll offer anything.

I just wondered if anyone had any ideas on how to pursue this, if at all. Will PayPal offer any protection at all in this situation?

Thanks

You have the same protection with PayPal as you would if you had bought it on eBay. that assumes you paid for named goods and did not send payment as a gift.

Try seller first of course, if that fails open a claim with PayPal, they will expect you to return it fully tracked to the seller and as long as you can then prove delivery was attempted you should be fine.
