Starting new job

Hello all
So I went for a interview today and I was told I will have a 2 hour taster and a 1 month trial I have not been in work for 7 months now so it's starting to look better for me but.
Job is 10 miles away so i'll have to take the train everyday.
It's a chefs job and I have no chef whites.
I dont see How I will be able to make my last jsa payment last me a month while paying for the train when I have work days.
Is there any help for people getting back into work and waiting till there payday ect ?
thank you

Thanks Lady
The £100 over 4 weeks will cover trains but I also have the fear of not being able to buy food xD0 -
Yes but it's not paid instant probably when they have closed your claim. You could still apply for a crisis loan but they will probably only give you peanuts. Thanks Lady

There's another solution. Walk/cycle to work everyday instead of taking the train. I used to walk/jog/run to work and it's 5 miles to and 5 miles back. If you cycle, 20 miles per day isn't that draining or time consuming. That's assuming you don't travel uphill a lot. You can definitely buy a push-bike less than £80 if you're ok with second hand usable but crap looking models. £20 a month is enough to survive on.
I advise my method over borrowing money. You really don't want to pay back at those interest rates...0 -
walk 5 miles? That would take about 2 hours!amazingcookie wrote: »There's another solution. Walk/cycle to work everyday instead of taking the train. I used to walk/jog/run to work and it's 5 miles to and 5 miles back. If you cycle, 20 miles per day isn't bad.
some people can't really cycle to work if you have to wear a suit etc.
The OP would also need to buy a bike as I dont think they can really walk 10 miles there and 10 back.0 -

A chef job won't need a suit. Just wear a backpack to carry your uniform etc, and get changed in the toilets when you arrive. That's what I did.
5 miles walk usually takes me 1hr 35 minutes. If I run I can cut it down to 1hr. If I casually cycle I can cycle faster than I can run and keep the pace constant so you'll be looking at just below 2hrs for 10 miles. That's an estimate since I don't know OP's road layout.
You can buy a decent bike around £60-80. I just randomly searched for bikes and I already found one at £79 from Argos.
This inconvenience saves OP paying back high interest rates, and using future savings on foods and other things instead.

Just some examples. After buying them with free delivery, you can spend the rest of your money on food.0 -
Argos bikes are horrible, I do not recommend getting any bikes off there. The only decent bikes seem to be £300+, I speak from using a £100 bike cycling in and around London. Not very fun.
@pundless: Have you talked to your JCP adviser? Bring this to their attention and see if they can help you with travel costs. I'm sure you're eligible unless you've been rocking the HMS DWP warship.0 -
well then you have also to think where to put the bike. No where at all where I used to work or anywhere to chain it up. JSA is paid in arrears and buying a bike wont make the op better off only £70 lighter.amazingcookie wrote: »A chef job won't need a suit.
