Sounds like a debt warrant, if they you are there they will fit a pre-pay. Although if not if gas they will leave it capped but fit a pre-pay. Electric they will fit a pre-pay
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Thanks, I'm at home all day so going to call in morning, it's for electric..thank you

You would have been better off to act when they first advised you of their intention to seek a warrant. The debt plus the court and associated costs will now be added to the debt on the PPM.
Had you agreed voluntarily to the fitting of a PPM, you would have saved those additional debts.

debt warrants are about £300, inc locksmith etc

  • so now, when you top up the meter you will be paying off all the debt, that is so long as you need electricity.OR as i was told by one disgruntled debter "they can put whatever meter they like in I know how to bypass it" The electric prepay is by far and away the most tampered meter I find.and I am good at spotting them.At least the suppliers won t want you to put the reading online, so more work for the humble meter reader at least

Can you agree a payment plan with the warrant officer? You won't avoid warrant charges as that time has now passed, but they can do this if the call the supplier and agree it. If you default though they won't be giving you a second chance.

Exactly what stage has this got to?

IE Have you previously been notified of an application for a warrant of entry, ignored it (or similar) & they have thus already been granted it

If this is the case you may struggle to do anything about it

OR is it a letter saying they are calling with the intention of fitting a PPM or disconnection and will if necessary apply for a warrant of entry?

If this is the case where is your meter - inside (if this is the case you could refuse to let them in & they will then have to apply for a warrant of entry which you will have an opportunity to contest it and / or make other arrangements for payment)

OR is it outside the house (if this is the case you may again struggle to stop them fitting a PPM)

In either scenario they would favour PPM over disconnection but depending on your circumstances whether you have previously made and kept to or defaulted on any payment arrangements if they have not yet obtained a warrant you may still be able to negotiate with your supplier or consider Fuel Direct if on benefits.

By the wording it sounds like a disconnection warrant date, not a pre-disconnection one so will of already been to court.

I didn't have an opportunity to contest...I didn't even have prior warning to the fact it had gone to court or that the bailiff and meter fitters were coming! This was with British Gas and was one of the most stressful times of debt problems

And to clarify....When mine was done June 2010 it was a charge of £360 per meter added onto the previous debt!!

The thing that annoyed me with mine was, I had actually had BG out to fit a pre-payment meter for my electric, and the fitter; and i quote "refused to fit" He said there was no way he could fit a pre-payment meter where the current credit meter was as I would not be able to reach it! I wasted a day unpaid from work to have this but yet when they are getting £360 in charges to fit it they can do it?! Boils my !!!!!!!

I did get an apology from BG over it and they were much more helpful after realising that I had infact tried to rectify the situation much before it got to the point it did but being on pre-payment meters is the best thing that could ever have happened!

    Its quite common sadly.

As part of the data passed between parties, there is an item called meter location. However, its very vague and often not even populated accurately.

So, your supplier wouldn't possess data telling them this however that doesn't excuse the fact they should gave processes to prevent this.

Ofgem were digging into this in 2010/2011 but I haven't heard anymore so I doubt its being looked into now.

Get some compensation off the as there is a HSE height restriction for fitting pp meters hence the engineer did the right thing.
