Honda CRV VSA modulator fault

VSA modultor fault
Hi, I have exactly the fault described below and in other threads regarding the VSA modulator in my 2006 CRV. Has anyone used the ECU rebuild service and have any comments on reliability etc. Also is removal and replacement something a reasonably competent amateur can attempt or does it need a trained mechanic? Are there any step by step guides available? Thanks.

This ABS Pump Module is a very common failure for the Honda CRV built between 2004 - 2008. The fault causes the ESP/ABS light to illuminate permanently on the instrument cluster.
If you have been for a diagnostic check on your Honda CRV then your mechanic will probably have told you that your have a fault with your “Brake Pressure sensor” or given you the full fault code of: “66-1 BRAKE PRESSURE SENSOR FAILURE” and will probably have told you that you must change your ABS Pump Module for a small fortune

    sensible advice here
it says you need torque sensors readjusting so although its feasable to fit your owm abs recon unit you would still need tec tools to do this so the whole job might be better entrusted to an independant garage who can do this with say snap on or x431

I know exactly what your going through.

I have a 2005 Honda 2.2 diesel. The VSA light (but not the ABS) came on one day and never went out. I went on driving with the light on for over a year as the Honda tech said it would not effect the ABS and it passed the MOT. I would have been quite happy driving with this light on perm as when working it can be turned on and off anyway.

This year I was advised that at the next MOT it would be a failure.
Honda had a extended warranty on their dodgy VSA modulator but limited to cars up to 62,000 miles. I didn't quallify but the Honda tech phoned Honda UK customer service Tel No. 0800 466 466 and because I had a full service history and as a gesture of goodwill Honda UK said I could have the VSA modulator for £415+vat+labour of £150. Full price £1,600+labour. I bit the bullet and got it done. . Good general VSA info here- http://www.google.com/cse?cx=002134545166272172295:r6apjvdonka&q=VSA#gsc.tab=0&gsc.q=VSA&gsc.page=1

Best route to go down is get a Honda dealer tech to do a diagnostic test and they will phone Honda UK and hopefully get a goodwill gesture.
Also some people will tell you to take the VSA bulb out but the MOT will show this up. If you do find someway of repairing it perm let us know, you could make a small fortune. Good luck.

It may as well have been rocket science when I phoned bba-reman last year as I was told they were having problems with the Honda VSA unit and their machines could not repair it and had to send units back to customers unrepaired. At least they were honest. If your saying they can successfully fix them now then I will edit my post and hope others benefit if thats the case.

BBA did mention this firm - http://www.ecutesting.com/abs_pumps_modules.html
which I kept a link to but I have no idea if they are any good as I never followed it up. Honda UK worked out for me and the op has nothing to lose by phoning for a goodwill gesture.
