need excuses to get out of a work event

I work from home and have been asked to travel to london for a meeting, i dont need to be there but my boss thought it would be nice to see the head office and meet the fundraisers i work for, i know people that have worked for this firm 15yrs or so and have never been to hq so i dont think i need to go
plus its 3 hrs from where i live, ive put on weight so feel underconfident and not my usual self i would rather meet these people when i feel more confident and get down to my normal weight(ive put on 2 stone)
im suppose to be going on thursday so need help with a plausible excuse that i can tell my boss so i can get out of it with him believing me and not getting nasty with me

prior engagement, or a sudden doctors appointment?

Or you could take ill with that nasty cold like virus thats going round
  • how about saying you have been in close contact with someone with a contageus disease ( german measels) that you have not had. you are worried about passing it on. that way you do not have to pretend to be sick. this will definatly work if there are any pregnant women at head office.

Ok...don't take this the wrong way...but couldn't you just bite the bullet and go? Might help boost that confidence.I presume all your expenses and time will be paid for?
I just think that if you start doing the old "excuse" thing it becomes a habit too easily and you miss out.I know for sure that if I waited till I lost my two/three/four stone in weight to go public I'd still be housebound at 60 years old! :rotfl:

tan I think you should go, who gives a stuff about 2 stone, I can assure you other people in the workplace wont batter an eyelid.

Go on go for it, put your power suit on, slap the makeup on with a squirt of perfume, go up there with confidence and you never know you might even be treated to a nice lunch :)
  • tan I remember you

... you can't carry on like this. GP?

Ahhh...now I read the last thread where you didn't want to go to a party I'd DEFINATELY say just go!!See!It DOES become a habit and it's a tough one to break.Who cares about your weight??There are disfigured/disabled people who face far worse every day but live life to the full.
Sorry to sound heartless but I really think it's time to get out there mate x

Surely you should take this as a complement that your boss wants you to go and not them...

if you can't go, don't go but confide in your boss if he's a person you can rely on to be discreet. You don't need to mention your weight, just say that you don't have the confidence to deal with it at the moment. Then....go and see your GP. The weight isn't the issue, although it won't be helping.
