My file at the JC is full of emails re the replies I have got from the JCP jobs I have applied for where they have told me I was over quailfied and I have asked the JC what are they going to do about it since they made me apply and the reply is "we can't do anything" - case closed!

Madness. Desperation.:footie:0 -
I have been doing recruitment work as part of my job and having been there myself, I don't get annoyed at people applying who have obviously been told to by the Job Centre. What does trouble me is people sending their CVs in reply to an advert that says "Please contact us for more information- direct CVs will not be accepted"- do you think this is a Job Centre thing too? I would have thought people would follow instructions if they really wanted to prove themselves worthy of interview. We don't let this kind of thing affect our judgement of applicants once their forms have been returned, but I am sure other places might- if they are looking for an excuse to cut down the shortlist as quickly as possible...0

That depends what the Job Centre have actually put in your advert. My question is more, are job centre advisers only content if you have sent your CV as a reply to a job advert, rather than just asking for an application form? You know, to qualify for your "I have applied for x amount of jobs this week"- I believe things have got stricter since I was on JSA myself a few years ago.
I don't know if our ads go onto the JCP website itself but a few people have put "in response to Job Centre ad" in their emails. I will have a look on JCP next time we have a vacancy, but most people seem to come from charityjob, careerbuilder and the newspapers.0 -

There are some jobcentres that are overworked.
There are some that do nothing.
However theyre all the same - they are not very much bothered the majority of them and what they do is click on a little linky and send the CV off or they print out an email address (even if its just for more info) and they say "send your cv anyway".
However, it is also the job of the individual to request the jobcentre to print out the entire advert, read it, and apply as stated.
So i blame the individual a little more than i do the jobcentre on this one.0 -

Many adverts are inaccurate anyway, I applied for a job yesterday where the jobcentre advert stated to email a CV. I got a reply today saying CV's are not accepted and to complete the application form.0 -
Oh I DO get annoyed at applicants who have no interest in the job beyond proving to the jobcentre they have applied for a job.
Yes, but you can tell those ones though. They're the applications that manage just the one line in the bit where they have to show how they meet the job spec. File straight in the bin without looking at anything else.
What really pees me off are the ones (often graduates who you would assume should know better) who show no signs of recognising what a job spec is, and are completely unfamiliar with the spell check. Puts me right off - they tell me they've got a degree/nvq/whatever, and assume I'm going to shortlist from that. I work on the basis that if you can't put the effort in getting the application right, then it says nothing for your level of commitment if you do get the job. I'm not a sodding mind reader.
Edit - and in answer to the OP, yes it is frustrating when the ad clearly says shiftwork, evenings and weekends, and I get sent someone who wants weekdays 9-3 to fit in with school hours. Waste of everyone's time, mine and theirs. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
The original thread was Do employers get !!!!ed off?
And frankly from experience the answer is yes. The company I worked for used the jobcenter because we thought people want jobs and to be honest we actually did not want to pay silly agency fees. The majority of the jobcenter applicants were not suitable and were being sent because they had to to be seen to be actively seeking employment. Waste of everybody's time. But in business time is money , so yes bit annoying. Not blaming the applicants because they are going through the motions but honestly "Do employers get !!!!ed off? " Yes.0 -
The question was:Hey has the subject changed?
My answer was, no - necause fo rthe right candidate, compromises could be made and hten I demonstrated ways in which the hours were suitable if the poster turning down a second job started looking at was to overcome the problem rather than taking a passive stance.Do employers get annoyed with applicants who are sent by the jobcentre despite the hours not being suitable?
I pointed out that as an employer, I'd be more
by evidence of someone who wasn't trying to solve a problem as all the jobs in my team rely on a degree of problem solving skills and lateral thinking - whether you are working in as junior admin or senior post.annoyed
hope this helps:A"This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0
