Do employers get !!!!ed off?

Do employers get annoyed with applicants who are sent by the jobcentre despite the hours not being suitable?

Yet again today I was matched to a job where the hours are not suitable for my bus service, I even provided a time table and my advisor said he would restrict my hours which has not happened.

Submitted me to a job where the hours are 10am-11pm, my last bus leaves town at 1055pm!!

So yet again I have to apply and ask for flexibility with the finish time.

Do employers get fed up with stuff like this?
Surely they should complain about it?

I don't mind if people make it clear up front about their time needs at the time of application. Some jobs can be a bit flexible, some can't. Our official office hours are 9-5 but we currently have two people doing 10-6 and one doing 8 -4. We advertise 9-5 because those ARE our real opening hours and what most people work, but in some roles we adjust things a bit.

It doesn't annoy me to be asked at this stage. If I'd got as far as interviews and found out I wouldn't be impressed as it could be one of the roles with no flexibility, and you'd have wasted my time.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.

This is for a place where I have applied before and got turned down due to the restrictions, it isn't an office job.

I can get annoyed but I get annoyed at the source not the candidates. Ultimately if they send too many CVs that are inappropriate they get blocked from advertising/ submitting candidates.

Have no issues with an agent or such calling me advising of the situation and asking if I want to see the CV or not, or if they just put a note in the covering letter etc

Oh I DO get annoyed at applicants who have no interest in the job beyond proving to the jobcentre they have applied for a job.

Some jobs you are made to apply for when they and you know full well you will never even get a reply let alone interview.

my advisor tries to get me to apply for jobs that i havent got a chance in getting. When they ask for experience she says well you could try, whats the point though they will be looking for someone with experience. Sometimes the salary is dependant on experience. Its just so desperate its a joke.

My file at the JC is full of emails re the replies I have got from the JCP jobs I have applied for where they have told me I was over quailfied and I have asked the JC what are they going to do about it since they made me apply and the reply is "we can't do anything" - case closed! :)

My thinking would be, if this is the second job you have been unable to get becasue of transport, that you would start thinking of alternatives to the bus.

10 miles is not far if you cycle - is there a cycle route you could use? If you can't cycle, can you go on freecycle to ask for one and then start practising? It seems as though there are jobs close to you, but you need to get there.

If you can drive: Could you possbily move in with someone / rent a room somewhere close to work for a few months till you can save up the cost of a banger?

Could you arrange for someone to give you a lift halfway and then walk the rest of the way?

If you can't drive, could you start looking ahead about what you can do about learning to drive in the medium to long term? Could a mate give you lessons while you scrape together money for an instructor etc?

As an employer, I'd actually be more put off by the candidate's lack of willingness / initiative to work round the problem - the most valuable staff are the ones you know will do everything to get in if it snows, so when they ring and say, boiler's burst or can't get in you already know their character v a member of staff who stays home for a week with bad hayfever, yet won't go to the doctor about it.

    Hey has the subject changed?
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun
