I've covered shoe type boxes with gold foil wrap as a base for hampers before. When all wrapped up in cellophane and ribbon, these look stylish and cost nothing, though I do prefer the traditional basket hampers. As I do these for family members, I ask for them back afterwards, as I know they won't be used. I also get them to save Douwe Egbert's coffee jars for pots of gold. And a final money saving tip, I make my own shredded tissue/coloured paper for packaging too (using a paper shredder).
It's worth displaying hampers and pots of gold for a day or two if you've put lots of effort into them, otherwise if you have family like mine they've been opened before anyone's admired the handiwork!somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
Cheap, pretty woven straw handbags. Charity shops often have them and I bought quite a few from Matalan last summer.0

I've gone to charity/antique shops and bought pretty plant pots and bowls for toiletries before. I've also picked up old fashioned tin caddies etc... These kind of shops are the best for inspiration!
Vanity cases, boxes, stacker boxes, small bins, buckets, ice buckets....0 -
I've just done one for my friends birthday.
Shes going on holiday this year and shes super excited! I've put the 'stuff' into a hand-luggage sized suitcase... Dunelm has a big sale on at the moment and it only cost me £60 -
I've no idea what these are like in person as I don't have a Poundland, only a poundworld. I have been being nosy on their website though and have spotted these which might be some good for people, especially if they can be parcelled up with various festive papers etc:
