Parking Ticket- advice

Been shopping with my friend today (her car) parked up in our usual car park, rooted around for the money, went to machine and paid for 2 hrs (as usual), ticket displayed in full view. My friend had to go back to the car after about an hour because she had forgotten her store card, as she got there she was being issued a ticket for overstaying by around 10 min. She told the guy that she had paid for two hrs, he pointed to ticket were it only showed 1 hr stay. The machine had only given her a 1 hrs instead of 2. She took the ticket, phoned me directly (I was waiting in the store) to come meet her so we could go to the parking peoples office. Anyway we couldn't find it, so decided to drive home, but as I was looking at the ticket I noticed that even though her reg was on it, the make was wrong, it stated silver Peugot (sp) instead of Vauxhall Corsa.

Is there anything that can be done? Obviously she can't prove that she paid for a 2 hr ticket, but is there anything she can do with regard to the wrong make of car? She's not trying to worm out of it, it just doesn't seem fair

Any help would be really appreciated

Frgot to mention that where it says parking attendant it has a number, nad then underneath it says signature, but it hasn't got one

  • Can anyone help?
  • I beleive that things such as the make colour, date has to be correct on the ticket or it is not valid.

I would suggest writing to the office saying that you don't own a Peugeot.

They won't have a leg to stand on !!

I'd have thought a parking ticket without a signature wasn't worth a light, but that's only my guess, I don't know. That and the incorrect details might swing it for you. Trouble is I'll bet somewhere in some microscopic print in some obscure bit of legislation it'll say it's your responsibility to check for correct details & time on your windscreen ticket. Best of luck though.

  • I would suggest visiting consumer action group website and looking through the parking section. I have challenged 2 parking tickets using information I have got there and both tickets have been cancelled.

I would say that they would probably come back with the 'should check details on ticket' line. However, if you had done - what would they have expected , at which point you would have nioted that they were wrong - what would they have expected you to do?

What about the warden checking details on the ticket? ;)

Not checking the parking ticket is your fault, luckily the ticket you were issued with has got the wrong details on it I would keep a copy of the ticket(photocopy and return the original to the ticket office stating you do not own a Peugeot ,perhaps a copy of your V5 registration document with help sway them.
After all they have issued the ticket incorrectly and you are not liable to pay as they are siting another make of vehicle. This throws in "an element of doubt"If the officer couldn't even get the colour and make right ,is there anything on the ticket that is correct?
  • I had a similar problem with the Wardens in Glasgow They gave a me a standard fixed penalty however the ticket never had the cost of the penalty on it.

I appealed it and won I didnt have to pay although the letter stated this does not set a precedent :D

I would argue that as some of the facts are wrong, its likely others are.
  • Definately challenge the ticket! The information on the ticket must be correct otherwise the ticket cannot be enforced.
