Warning. RyanAir can charge twice for your baggage

It appears Michael Leary has discovered a way of charging twice for your bags. Most lowcost airlines "pool" the baggage allowance on a booking and so long as the total checked in bags for all passengers are less than the allowance booked they are happy. Not so RyanAir. Just checked in online for a flight with a hold bag and golf clubs and checked the T&C's and Shock-Horror. Apparently you cannot even pool your "paid for" allowance over the same person. I've paid for 15Kg hold bag and 20 Kg Sports equipment, a total of 35 Kg. However if I turn up at the airport with 12 Kg in my hold bag and 22 Kg in my golf clubs (34 Kg, 1Kg less than I have paid for) I will be charged Excess baggage of £40 for the 2 Kg my golf clubs are over, even though I've already paid for it. Is this legal?

Best bet then is take 15kg hold baggage and 20kg sports equipment
which as you say is what you paid for, problem solved0 -

If you are going to bother to check the T&C's it is best to do so before you buy rather than after then you can choose not to buy and have no need to complain about it.
It is legal and not new.
(Watch out for the new RyanAir family saver ticket for 2 adults and 2 children under 10 - a total group passenger weight limit applies and anything above that will be billed at excess baggage rates)0 -

I'm not sure I understand the problem here so correct me if I am wrong.
You pay Ryanair to carry 15kg in the hold, you then make a seperate payment to cover them carrying 20kg of your sports equipment. Ryanair then carry the luggage/equipment at no extra cost provided it falls within the weight restrictions?
The problem occurs when you want to carry the 35kg total allowance as you see fit? In other words you expect Ryanair to be flexible yet you were happy with the T&C's at the time of booking.
If you want flexibility avoid using Ryanair. If you want bargain flights and are willing to play by their rules then use them and get some fantastic bargains.0
