Parking Ticket on a hire car
There is residents parking where I live which requires a permit. My normal car is currently being repaired at a garage and I have a hire car. I forgot to take the permit from my car when it was collected.
Stupidly, I also forgot to put a message in the windscreen of the hire car whilst parked overnight and subsequently got a ticket - for the first time in the five years I have lived here.
Do you think I should pay up or write a letter to the Appeal to the council's parking team? I have what I consider extenuating circumstances as one of my children was in hospital over the weekend (hence the need for a hire car).
What would you advise?

Definitely write an appeal letter - say exactly what you've said above & impress the child in hospital aspect. The traffic comm's are human after all & it's worth the effort.0

Definitely write the letter. The worst that can happen is you have to pay up - anything less is a bonus.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Try a letter, but be prepared that if they write to the hire car company in relation to the fine its likely that it was in your agreement that they would just pay the fine on your behalf and then charge your credit card plas and admin fee for the time taken.0

Definitely worth appealing, given your particular circumstances. Also if you've any paperwork you could send copies of (not originals) proving your child was in hospital, that might help - doctor's letter even. If they are human then I would have thought that should do it ... but I wouldn't bank on the human bit . If they won't waive the fine then sadly it will be you that pays it not the hire company. Good luck.Favours are returned ... Trust is earned

I hope it isn't Edinburgh - I know people who got fines because their permit was on the road side of the car and the poor dears who give the fines out can't see that far. And no they didn't get their fines rescinded because it was basically a case of traffic warden against tax payer0

From experience I can tell you they'll probably write back and say something along the lines of the permit needs to be displayed. But it's worth a letter. If you don't ask...You don't get! Make sure you include a copy of your permit, so they know you do actually have one.Live as if your were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever - Mahatma Gandhi0
