Anyone with experience of returns to Dabs.com?

Hi, my daughter's Christmas laptop will not power on - tried all the obvious things. Have just logged on the Dabs for an RMA authority but it says item must be resaleable which sounds like they'll just replace rather than repair.
I don't think there is anything desperately important on it but there is personal info like CVs and job applications plus a natty cover on the lid. Does anyone know if they will format the disk before selling it on to wipe the data?
Thanks.

They'd ought to but they'll prob return to manufacturer anyway if it's failed

The chances are they'll restore it to the factory settings before selling it on.

Not, I suspect, to keep your data private but so the 'new' owner thinks they've got a demo model or a factory refurb and not a laptop that someone else has sent back for whatever reason.

Can you remove the lid cover? If so I would, they will probably only bin it before re-selling.

Remove the hard drive and connect it to another computer - something like this can used if you don't have something already: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-2-0-All-IDE-SATA-2-5-3-5-HD-HDD-Converter-Adapter-Cable-/251008173499?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item3a7140c5bb

    then format it
