confused about maternity

Options
Hi
my boss is selling the company and we will all be made redundant 30th march 2012 and I am due to give birth in june.
I have been told i will receive all notice and redundancy pay plus maternity pay.
my maternity pay will start on 1st of april and my empolyer will pay me monthly.
but im confused about the 6 weeks at 90% pay, is he ment to give me this with redundancy pay or will the new company pay it???
i know the £128 per week is covered by goverment but im worrying that i wont get the first 6 weeks money as my boss has never done this before and i know he doesnt really no how it works himself.
I hope this make sense and would really be grateful for any help
thanks :)

  • If the Company are going to continue to pay you Monthly and your SMP starts from 1st April you should get 4.2857 weeks at 90% paid in April. May would then be 1.7143 weeks at 90% in May plus 2.7142 weeks at the new SMP rate of £135.45 then June 4.2857 weeks @ 135.45 and so on according to the number of days in the Month until you have had 39 weeks. SMP is paid at a daily rate over 7 days. I always calculate to 4 decimal places as this is in line with how Sage payroll calculates, some people may round it up to 2 decimal places. So long as you get paid the right amount in the end.

Notice pay can overlap with maternity(also sick) you only get the higher amount(normaly full pay for the notice period).
  • Payroll is not my area of expertise but your Manager should be able to "roll up" the payments (you said he was unsure about the whole situation so I thought I mention this option in case he wasn't aware).

But you may want to consider having the rolled up payment in the new fiscal year.

Depends if you want the payments monthly or would just rather these were paid in a lump sum?

If you are interested perhaps post again - the payroll advice is very good here
