tim158,
I can't see that this is a cheap exercise. Cameras do cost money. Or are you proposing to use some old webcams around your property???
What's your budget?Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -

It depends if you want to make or buy a system.
Id have thought that the sensor off a security light would surfice, and you can probably get one of them for a few quid. That could be linked to your PC via a serial link which trips the record switch.
If you want to buy it as a kit, Id do a Google for 'home automation'. Letsautomate.com or simplyautomate.co.uk probably do something similar. I wouldnt think its neccessary to add a particularly large hard drive, as the camera will probably be quite low resolution."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0 -
Get a few old webcams, link them up to a usb hub which then links back to a stand alone pc (running say xp and disconnected from any form of network). Research some software on the internet, download it and use the webcams, most have an option to start recording once movement is detected. My labtec one does, i use it as a room cctv for when i got out. My brother is always nicking stuff from me but i could never prove it lol. Now i can!

that looks great and ive downloaded the version they offer although for the full version you need to pay. Im sure you could see what its like first though. And if you think its worth it whats £20 when it could save you potentially hundreds.
The good thing is, it supports 16 channels (or 16 cameras) and a microphone for audio recordingLike what I said? click thanks!:rotfl: :rotfl:

Search for dome cameras on ebay, these should be good enough for a home cctv system and are cheap £15-£20. You can also get one that comes with software that activated when movement is detected. Remember, if you go wireless there is a possibility that other people can pick up the signal as well. Also remember if you want to use the images as evidence you will need to make sure the software uses a timestamp, not all of them do.0
