Bt Scum

How can I get my £130+ back from BT? BAST@RDS!!!

Can I go to the police?

Can I claim back interest for my money they will not give back to me?

Back in Aug 2006, I cancelled my Broadband with BT. They required 1 month’s notice which is fine, and I asked for my £37 p/m direct debit, to be reduced by £25 p/m (Broadband was currently £25.99 and standing charge was £11 – Total of £36.99).

Please note, I make no calls whatsoever on my BT line, and my bill is £11 p/m in the last 2 years for the line rental only.

I noticed that BT was still taking £37 out of my account, so I contacted them. They said it would take effect at my next quarterly billing date. I waited, and nothing changed.

After a phone call (which took about 30 mins until I spoke to someone) They said again, once I get my next bill in place, I can request that my credit with them be paid back, and if I create an online account, I can change my direct debit amount there.

I immediately logged on, and reduced it to the lowest amount of £10.

I called yesterday, (it’s taken me this long to contact them as I can’t bear to call them, it’s nearly suicidal!) and explained all of this to the guy on the other end. I also explained that I would need a refund for the 1 and a bit months that I was paying for Broadband, as they have my broadband cancellation date down as the 13th October.

Currently they think I’m just over £112 in credit with them. They would only offer to pay back to me today £37 and the rest I will have to wait until my next bill, so they can take the amount off my credit and then give me the remainder. I explained that I am already paying £10 p/m and if you look at my history, I don’t make any calls and my bill is £11 p/m in the last 2 years.

Surely they can’t do this. When I asked for a refund for the 1 and a bit months for broadband, they pulled a figure out of the air for £10 to try and get rid of me!! It should be nearer £30!!!.

Where do I stand? Can I go to the police and report a theft? They have unlawfully taken an extra £26 from my account each month for the past 6 months approximately, and are holding this extra credit in their account and will not give it back to me?

Do I also have grounds to claim back interest for the time they have had my money?

Someone help please…….

If it was a DD and not a CCCA then contact your bank, under the DD scheme they will sort it out.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I suggest you change from being on a Monthly Payment Plan to 'Whole Bill direct debit'

This means that in future, BT will only take the exact amount of each bill in future and not a set monthly amount (which can cause credits to build up)

  • To request a refund of your credit balance you dont need to speak to anyone, it can be done using the automated service on 150 and you can reduce the monthly payments in this way too ( I think there will be a minimum amount though) Have your bill with you, as it asks for your customer number

As per gt94sss2's (Sunil's) post, go onto Whole Bill Direct Debit instead of Monthly Payment Plan. You should have done this ages ago, especially if you don't make calls and therefore your bill will be the same every billing period anyway.

I assume that as soon as you switch between the payment plans, they will credit back your money.
  • Thanks for all the comments and help. I'll be on the blower today! :)
